Who we are and what we do

We are proud to be one of the UK’s leading publishing groups, comprised of ten publishers and over 50 imprints, with a rich and diverse history. Hachette UK aims to be the publisher and employer of choice for all people, and is a dynamic, fun place to work.

We are in the final stages of transitioning our Royalty and sub-right systems from Vista to Alliant, which will interface with our publishing system used for contract management (Biblio) and our sales and finance systems (SAP).

What you’ll be doing

We are now seeking a Head of Royalties for Hachette UK, responsible for managing a team of 13 across the majority of divisions at Hachette and overseeing both royalties and rights accounting.

This new role, reporting to the Director of Group Financial Planning and Analysis, will be critical in supporting the transition to the new systems and ways of working, and in leading the team to become the best in the industry.

Initially, the role will focus on managing the workloads of the royalty teams during the parallel run of the new system, ensuring all team members are thoroughly trained in and confident using the new system, and that the legacy system is kept up to date and efficient, and liaising with the project team over system issues.

Once the new system is live, the role will be key in steering the royalties team to become key business partners of the divisions. Developing royalty managers’ roles and capability so that that they are routinely  involved in all royalty discussions with agents, analysing new royalty terms feasibility and cost- effectiveness, and ensuring that any new route to market can be supported through the royalty system.

The position will also contribute to the business relationship with our sister companies in the US and Australia to ensure correct reporting of royalties worldwide.

Who we’re looking for

  • Proven experience of managing a sizeable royalty and rights team
  • Thorough understanding of rights accounting
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Proven attention to detail, organised and methodical
  • Positive attitude with the ability to engage and motivate your team through change
  • Commercial acumen and decision-making skills
  • A high proficiency in Excel and royalty system knowledge (Alliant knowledge an advantage)
  • Experience in the publishing industry would be an advantage
